10 to 15 years from now

I attended a football reunion on the weekend. Caught up with a heap of people that I had not seen for 10 to 15 years. It was a very interesting night and we all had a great time.

The basic questions seemed to be asked in almost every conversation once the hellos and how are yous were finished. These questions were "where are you now?" and "what are you doing?"

As I am interested in what makes people tick and what makes people get stuff done and make them successful. I listened with great interest to the answers. They typically fell into 3 categories.

1. Nothing much has changed, I still live in X work for Y doing Z. These people gave the impression that they were stuck in a rut, same old same old, the mouse on the wheel going round and round but getting nowhere.

2. I've been doing it a bit tough, lived in few different places and tried different jobs, cant wait to win the lotto. These people seemed to think someone else was going to give them the big break, or had the impression that life owes them something, or that sooner or later they would get lucky.

3. I have done A Tried B and Succeeded at C. These people were the successful ones, some having had immediate success and reaped the rewards, some having gone broke and tried again and again till they became successful or achieved whatever target they had set themselves. These people seemed the happiest and most energetic and positive. Most importantly none of them had done it easy, they told the stories of how hard they had to work at it, how they had to try different strategies and stretch themselves. These are the ones who got off their arses.

Which group will you be in if there is a reunion in 10 or 15 years.

Remember there are no shortcuts and luck is not a strategy, if you want to get things done you need to GET OFF YOUR ARSE
